***ACTION ALERT for Single Payer***
Write Your Representative Today!
It's time to take action again for SINGLE-PAYER NATIONAL HEALTH CARE! We asked you to do this a few weeks ago. We need you to send a message
again. It's easy and it just takes a few minutes.
Republicans call it "socialized medicine." Democrats call it the "public option". We call it "insurance industry life-support". HR 3962, the recently-passed Democratic health care reform bill, barely passed the House and the Senate version is facing a tough sell. Despite increasingly bitter partisanship, both sides of the Congressional aisle - progressives like Dennis Kucinich and conservatives like Michele Bachmann - can agree that the there is something in this bill to offend everyone.
The Green Party supports a universal, single-payer "Medicare for All" plan. Greens called HR 3962 "a program to subsidize the insurance industry," and we continue to urge the Senate to bring a sinlge-payer plan to the table. We believe this is the only way to give American citizens the health care and coverage that they need - not the premiums, red tape and exclusions insurance company executives want.
Amendments to allow states to create their own single-payer coverage systems - local, small-government solutions that liberals and conservatives both could have approved of - were stripped from consideration of the House bill. In the end, the only amendment considered - the Stupak Amendment - would ban federal subsidies from being used to fund elective abortions. After arguing that their plan would not "ration" care by setting up government panels to determine coverage, Democrats conceded to a single amendment that would effectively outlaw private medical decisions, without even the benefit of a "women's rights" panel!
The Green Party supports both expanded education and access to reproductive knowledge - for women and men - in order to prevent unintended pregnancies, and the right to abortion if a women chooses one. Feminism is one of the key values of the Green Party, and the Green Party's National Women's Caucus has noted that a women's choice of medical responses to an unintended pregnancy should be a non-negotiable right.
Since the passage of HR 3962 and the Stupak Amendment, several House and Senate members have promised to work against a Senate version of the health reform plan with a similar provision, and work to block a conference committee version of the final bill with a Stupak-like exclusion. We urge our supporters to continue to work against the Democratic "insurance industry bailout" bill, especially one that would deny so many women the right to legal abortions through private, though federally-subsidized insurance.
Please take a few moments to send an email urging your Congressional representatives to drop support for the Democratic bill - particularly any anti-choice amendments that might come before the Senate or full Congress later this year - and work for a universal, single-payer "Medicare for All" system.
Don't forget to take a few seconds to personalize your email letter. Make reference to any local health insurance corporations who would profit if HR 3962 became law, and add your own reasons why you oppose the so-called "public option."

More information :)
Please show your support for the Green Party of the United States, the only political party that stands firmly for a Single Payer Health Care System, and for health care as a right as the most practical way to ensure our nation's health security. Your gift of any amount will strengthen the Green Party's voice for Single Payer.
Sustainers are our base of support, enabling us to count upon a base level of income each month to pay staff, sustain our Washington DC office, and support advocacy of issues like Single Payer. Many people find that it is more affordable to spread their donation out monthly. During our time together in Durham, we called for an increase in monthly sustainers from 250 to 500. With your help we can meet the $10,000 per month goal. You can start your sustainer here. If you are already a sustainer, please consider increasing your level by as much as you can by contacting Brian Bittner at email@example.com or 202-319-7191.
TAKING ACTIONs :)
We Give Thanks to You :)
This Thanksgiving Day, Greens have much to be thankful for and much to celebrate, as well as much to prepare for and work toward in the coming year. We thank you for staying in touch with us, and forming the backbone of our support. Because we do not depend on corporations, PACs or special interest groups, you are our sole means of support. If you would like to make another generous contribution,
we would appreciate it.
We thank over 150 candidates who represented the Green Party throughout the year in local, state, and federal elections. We thank the Reverend Bill Talen for being physically removed from a New York City mayoral debate for asking why he, the Green party-nominated candidate, was not invited to participate. We thank Lynne Serpe for showing us that a Green Party member can out-fundraise an incumbent member of a New York City dynasty. We thank Cam Gordon of Minneapolis and Chuck Turner of Boston for bringing Green Party wisdom to big cities, and Mary Jo Long of Afton, New York and Christine Nagle of College Park, Maryland for bringing it to small towns.
We thank our hundreds of past and present office-holders for showing that, once elected, Greens can work with others and lead their communities with new ideas and common sense. We thank Pam Hartwell-Herrero, Lew Tremaine and Larry Bragman of Fairfax, California for proving that the Green Party can serve as the majority of a city council. We thank Kevin Donoghue and David Marshall for maintaining a Green bloc on the Portland, Maine City Council. And we thank dozens of Greens doing unheralded work on Soil and Water Boards, Boards of Education, Water and Sanitary Districts, and as Auditors and Constables.
We thank the many Greens that have risked arrest and imprisonment for speaking out on this key issue. We thank Howie Hawkins, candidate for Syracuse City Council, and Midge Potts, 2010 candidate for U.S. Senate in Missouri, and all who have sacrificed their freedom to demand single-payer health care for all Americans. We are thankful that these Greens - and Cynthia McKinney, imprisoned in Israel earlier this year for attempting to deliver relief supplies through a humanitarian group - are free to celebrate with their loved ones today. Greens across the country continue to work to free prisoners of the failed war on drugs, prisoners of crimes of poverty, and prisoners of the Bush-turned-Obama Administration's indefinite detention policy so all might be free to celebrate with us.
We thank the members of our National Committee, all our committees, and all our state and local organizers who devote tens of thousands of hours every year to build a truly progressive political movement. We thank everyone who helped spread the word about our candidates by going door-to-door, writing letters to their local papers, making phone calls, and stuffing envelopes. We thank you for already volunteering to support our candidates and campaigns in 2010.
We thank our friends and families who may not be Green Party members but still support our work and campaigns. Please take a second to forward this message to them as a sign of our thanks, and a request for them to join our party as we continue to build an alternative to politics as usual.
Lastly, we thank you - our supporters and donors. We especially thank our sustainers for their help all year long. Please help us continue to fulfill our mission by donating to the Green Party today. We don't take ANY corporate money because we think corporate money in politics is wrong. If you want to help us work for peace, support candidates and spread the Green message please help us today.
This Black Friday, Plan to Buy Green
Thinking about going out today to buy that discounted big-screen TV, DVD player, or brand-new sandwich maker? Before you rush out and buy, try taking the day off, staying at home, and thinking about what you really want to promote this holiday season with your hard-earned money. We hope you'll pick your Green Party - not Wal-Mart's quarterly earnings - by planning to give your family and friends some Green Party merchandise. Click here
to see our variety of items, including a special price on our Green Party hooded sweatshirts.
We hope you will think about what you spend this year - perhaps shop at thrift stores or flea (or even "free") markets. Instead of buying new goods, think about making donations or providing services. Instead of buying gifts, look for crafts and other hand-made objects, or make your own gifts for your friends. Many people are refraining from buying anything today as a protest again constant advertisements and consumer culture. The Green Party supports these efforts. We hope, however, if you decide to buy something new for your friends and family, you will consider buying them some Green Party goods. Here are a couple of reasons we think this is a good choice:
Green Party goods support a good cause. The Green Party and its candidates work throughout the year to represent Green Party values on City Councils, in your local newspaper, and to our representatives in Congress. Purchases from our store directly fund the Green Party's efforts.
Green Party goods are made in the USA. We support American workers so they can grow strong and take on the corporate management that threatens their wages, communities, and livelihoods.
Green Party goods are all union-made. When Americans are allowed to organize themselves at work, in their communities, and at the ballot box, we are all better off.
Your Green Party sweatshirts, t-shirts, buttons, water bottles, and tote bags all promote your political party and your candidates. Whenever you or your friends take them out of the house, everyone sees who are supporting and learns more about their political options.
Check out our holiday specials!
Green Party sweatshirts are on sale for only $30! That's a savings of almost ten dollars. These sweatshirts are 100% cotton and have a handy front pocket for your wallet, cell phone, or to keep your hands warm.
Green Party buttons are back! Due to overwhelming demand we sold out of these buttons over the summer, but they are back just in time for the holidays. Each one proudly advertises the Green Party and our website, www.gp.org.
Green Party water bottles, tote bags, magnets and jar openers make great stocking stuffers!
We hope you will sit back, relax, and enjoy a day at home, not out at the mall or racing through the nearest big-box store. When you do decide to buy, you can do it home through our online store, and you can do it knowing that your purchase won't buy a corporate CEO a new mansion, but will help America's largest anti-corporate, grassroots political party spread its message of economic justice and ecological wisdom.
Remember, the Green Party takes no money from real estate companies, private health insurance providers, or lobbyists. In fact, we don't take ANY corporate money because we think corporate money in politics is wrong. If you agree, please help us today. Your donation to the Green Party will help us make sure we have a strong Green Party today and into the future.
You can help us reach the goal we set in July at our national meeting of funding our operations with the help of 500 sustainers giving $10,000 a month by the end of 2009. In July we had 250 sustainers - currently we have 331. Click here to become a sustaining donor to the Green Party today!
Your gift of any amount will help to strengthen our voice so that we can make our vision a reality. With your help we can provide support for candidates and spread the Green message. If you have given recently, please consider giving more. And, if you haven't given in some time, please make today the day you give.
