noi, firmatari di questa petizione, la ringraziamo per aver deciso di non partecipare alla Conferenza Presidenziale in Israele. Crediamo, come lei, che il Governo Israeliano debba essere messo sotto pressione dalla comunità internazionale affinché cambi le sue politiche e che il boicottaggio sia uno strumento efficace e non violento per questo fine. Azioni come la sua possono creare la prospettiva di un cambiamento reale e dare speranza ai Palestinesi, sottoposti ad un regime di apartheid e di espropriazione.
Probabilmente sapeva che avrebbe pagato la sua scelta di principio a caro prezzo, data la prevedibile e deplorabile reazione di chi è a suo agio con lo status quo. Questo rende la sua azione ancora più lodevole. Grazie per il suo coraggio e la passione che pone in questo e in tutti gli ambiti della sua notevole vita. Sappia che questo movimento è in crescita e che lei è tutt’altro che solo.
***** we, the undersigned, commend you for your decision not to attend the Presidential Conference in Israel. We believe, as you do, that the Israeli government needs to be pressured by the international community into changing its policies, and that boycotting is an effective, nonviolent tool to create that pressure. Actions like yours give hope to Palestinians suffering from the effects of apartheid policies and dispossession, and help create a prospect for real change.
You must have known that you would pay a price for your principled decision given the predictable and unfortunate reaction of those comfortable with the status quo. This only makes your action all the more commendable. Thank you for your courage and inspiration in this and in all areas of your remarkable life. Please know that this movement is growing, and that you are far from alone.
