Warrenpoint Grass Roots Community Centre

Warrenpoint Grass Roots Community Centre
The Issue
A grass roots community centre for the people of Warrenpoint and beyond is greatly needed.
With a population of over 7.5K, a communal location that will provide the fundamental social needs of this great town is essential if it is to continue to grow & prosper.
A centre for all of the community would provide many opportunities such as fitness, education, arts & culture, and recreation. Many clubs & social groups could avail of these facilities to simply meet and greet, socialise, share ideas, plan & host events and even celebrate achievements! Youth friendship, computer, book, sports clubs, music practice, & many voluntary groups would all benefit from such a facility.
A community centre would also have many positive economic benefits to the area via the creation of new jobs and the possibility of providing work experience for those seeking it.
There are many viable locations within the Warrenpoint area that meet the criteria of a community centre, none more so than that of the current PSNI station in Charlotte Street Warrenpoint. This station is due to close and is expected to be up for sale in the coming months. As stated only one of many viable locations within this area.
A grassroots community centre for the people of this town is needed now.
We are asking the elected Newry Mourne & Down councillors of the Crotlieve area which encompasses Warrenpoint to take immediate action on requesting & securing the approval & funding for the set up and on- going maintenance of a community centre for the people of Warrenpoint and beyond. The urgency on which we request this is paramount due to the imminent closure and sale of the PSNI station. An opportunity to aquire such a premises might not present itself again and therefore we are asking that they act with haste.
Please sign this petition to request your Councillors to take action on this in order to make this possibility a reality for your community. Thank You!
