UChicago graduate students, who make up a significant portion of the university community, do not currently have access to Handshake, a career network platform. This restraint hampers their chances to secure job opportunities and internships. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2019, the unemployment rate for individuals with a master's degree was approximately 2% (source: NCES). However, accessibility to vital resources such as Handshake can potentially lower this figure, ensuring better career outcomes for graduate students. We believe that hand in hand, UChicago and Handshake can shape the future of many graduate students. Handshake's diverse listing of job opportunities across multiple industries ideally placed to provide UChicago graduate students with an essential resource that can significantly enhance their job-seeking process. With this in mind, we propose that UChicago extend Handshake's accessibility to graduate students to foster our university's core mission to champion student success and career progression.
