Grant The UK's Young People the EU's offer of Freedom of Movement
The Issue
The EU has recently forwarded an offer of freedom of movement for young people between the ages of eighteen and Thirty to the UK Government. This has been declined by the current Government and the Labour Party.
The current generation of young people are sometimes termed the "Lost Generation" They have suffered, and continue to suffer, from the effects of the Covid lockdown and there are a very high percentage suffering with long term mental health problems. After Brexit there were vague promises of moving closer to the US including a trade deal. This could have possibly also included extended visas with the ability to work for a short period of time for people within a certain age group. This of course has not come to fruition.
The UK government has no reason to decline this offer from the EU other than to further appease the vocal, now minority, supporters of a failed Brexit. No Government should play politics with the next generation who should have the opportunity to travel and engage with other cultures and languages and gain a good working experience that will benefit themselves and the UK as a whole.
