Throughout the decades, I've taken it upon myself to ensure these animals thrive, not just survive, and have never faced any problems while doing so.

However, current regulations infringe upon our rights as American citizens to provide the necessary care for raccoons, an act that not only brings joy to our lives but is crucial for their survival. The government imposes restrictions that inhibit the ability of ordinary, caring individuals to nurture and raise these animals. These policies do not reflect the reality of responsible wildlife management and, instead, create unnecessary barriers for those of us who are willing and equipped to assist.

The need for compassionate care for raccoons is especially important considering the burgeoning urban development which leads to loss of natural habitats and increases the instances of raccoons needing human assistance. Many wildlife caregivers and citizens with experience and knowledge are more than capable of providing a safe and nurturing environment for them.

In light of this, we call upon state and federal government agencies to amend existing laws and regulations, allowing citizens to care for, raise, and rehabilitate raccoons without excessive bureaucratic intervention. This can be achieved by revising legislation with the input of wildlife experts, ethical caregivers, and experienced individuals, and by developing a permit system that supports rather than hinders such activities.
