Grant Tax Benefits to Canadians Diagnosed with Celiac Disease

The Issue

I am a Canadian citizen diagnosed with celiac disease. Living with this autoimmune disorder is not only physically challenging but also financially burdensome due to the high cost of gluten-free food in Canada. The cost of gluten-free products is, on average, 242% higher than their regular counterparts (Canadian Celiac Association). This disparity, combined with the general increase in food prices across the country, places an undue financial strain on those of us living with celiac disease.

Celiac disease affects approximately 1% of Canadians (Canadian Digestive Health Foundation), yet there are currently no tax benefits or financial support systems in place to assist us. This lack of support exacerbates our struggle and hinders our ability to maintain a healthy diet necessary for managing our condition.

We urge the Canada Revenue Agency to recognize this overlooked issue and implement tax benefits for those diagnosed with celiac disease. Such measures would significantly alleviate the financial burden we face and demonstrate a commitment towards improving our quality of life.

Please sign this petition if you believe that individuals diagnosed with celiac disease deserve financial assistance through tax benefits from the Canadian government.
