Grant Students and Teachers a Four Day School Week

The Issue

Students and teachers will both benefit from this change in educational structure. It will allow for everyone in the school district to reap the benefits of having an extra day off.

If we make the switch to a four day school week then students and teachers will be more relaxed, less stressed out, and better rested to provide a much more efficient and effective learning/teaching environment. If things stay the same then people will remain stressed and fatigued resulting in a poorer educational environment.

  • Students and teachers will have an extra day off per week to allow for a better rest and relaxation period which will greatly improve not only mental health, but performance as well.
  • An extra day off can help students and teachers catch up on work that needs to get done outside of the classroom, this prevents stress and late work.
  • Students and teachers will be able to improve their sleep schedule with an extra day off and sleep is a vital part of a school's staff and student's mental and physical health. Sleep is ever so important in children as it helps the growth and development process.
  • An extra day off each week can make room for students and teachers to have more social/family time. Spending time with friends and family is not only fun, but necessary to keep mental health in good shape and to increase the social ability of children.

Now is a better time than ever to act as many changes have been made to the school system here in North Andover since COVID. For example lunch has been made completely free for students and this shows that the district is open to change. If we act now while change is still on the table we can make a four day school week possible. With just 200 signatures we can call a special town meeting to have this issue addressed and voted on. If we all act now we can improve the lives of our students which can make for a better future as these kids are our future doctors, astronauts, first-responders, and CEO's. Let's make this change together!
