Grant Residents the Freedom to Keep Chickens

The Issue

I am an ordinary resident of our beloved city with a simple desire - to keep chickens. This is not just a personal whim, but an aspiration I have noticed is shared by many fellow residents. However, our current city ordinances do not permit this. Chickens, besides being wonderful pets, can significantly contribute to a sustainable lifestyle. They produce fresh eggs, help with composting, and are excellent for controlling harmful pests.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, urban chicken-keeping is in vogue with an estimation of over 13 million Americans being engaged in this activity (USDA, 2019). This evidences the growing interest and the myriad benefits it brings.

Moreover, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published guidelines that, if followed, almost eliminate health risks associated with keeping chickens, thus dispelling any health-related concerns (CDC, 2020).

The right to keep chickens is not just about the poultry; it is about sustainability, self-sufficiency and the freedom to choose our way of life. It's high time our city also embraces this trend. Let's join our voices together and urge the city to change the ordinance. Please sign this petition to advocate for the right to keep chickens in our city.
