I am writing to appeal for a second chance after spending 32 years in prison, incarcerated since I was only 16 years old. My life was dramatically altered at an age when most teenagers are just starting to explore life’s possibilities. At 16, I made a terrible decision that has cost me many years of my life. I am deeply remorseful for my actions and have dedicated myself, while incarcerated, to making amends and transforming my life.

I have participated in and completed 15 institutional programs aimed at rehabilitation and personal growth. These programs equipped me with valuable skills and insights that have helped me evolve into a person ready to contribute positively to society. Furthermore, I have acquired two professional trades, which will enable me to secure stable employment upon release and ensure that I can support myself and become a responsible citizen.

Currently, I serve as the head facilitator for a life skills intervention program called "The Streets Don’t Love You Back," where I help guide others towards making better life choices. This role is one I hold with great responsibility and dedication, having seen firsthand the transformative power of guidance and support. I am committed to continuing this service, helping to prevent others from making the same mistakes I once did.

Over the past 32 years, I have worked tirelessly to rehabilitate myself. I am confident that I have changed significantly since my teenage years and am now prepared to reintegrate as a law-abiding and contributing member of our community. I have a supportive network waiting to help me transition smoothly back into society, including family and community groups, all willing to ensure I succeed outside the prison walls.

I understand the gravity of the crime committed and the pain it caused. This petition isn’t to overlook the past, but to recognize the possibility of redemption and the strides made towards that goal. Now that I have demonstrated sustained rehabilitation and have practical reintegration plans, I sincerely ask the Virginia Parole Board to consider granting me parole.
