Grant Money to Citizens for Flooding Protection

The Issue

I propose that the Chicago legislation grant money to the citizens of Chicago in high-risk areas for flooding control, as Chicago has experienced rampant flooding in recent years and even months. Most insurances do not cover flooding protection in their protection plans. This grant would be to people in high-risk areas who do not already have flooding protection. The funding would come from the Chicago Treasury. The commission would be from $1,000 to $5,500 (debatable) to help pay for the installation of flooding protection. A flood can cost up to 150k if you do not prepare. Flooding protection can cost a lot, and for the poor neighborhoods of Chicago, it may be infeasible to install flooding protection in some situations.

So, if you want flooding protection made more affordable for you or someone else, please consider signing. The time to act is now, while climate change is only beginning to affect Chicago, or we may risk worse situations for everyone, especially in vulnerable neighborhoods.

If you have signed the petition, thank you. If not, go do that now.

This petition will be shown to an alderman and possibly passed onto the governor.
