Grant Little Lions Farm Planning Application

Grant Little Lions Farm Planning Application
The Issue
We, the undersigned, express our strong support for the planning application submitted by Waggy Tails Charity to relocate their sanctuary to Little Lions Farm, Ashley Heath.
Reasons for Support:
1. Improved Accessibility and Facilities:
o The new location will provide better access and enhanced facilities to support the charity’s mission.
2. Comprehensive Mitigation Plan:
Waggy Tails has a well-developed mitigation plan to address concerns raised by Natural England regarding potential adverse effects on SPA birds and heathland habitats. The charity does not exercise dogs on the heathland, acknowledging the risks such as unsuitable terrain, presence of snakes, and potential eutrophication from dog waste.
3. Ample Space and Controlled Environment:
o Little Lions Farm offers 17 acres of space, allowing ample room for dog walking, horse grazing, and a large enclosure for hens, thereby eliminating the need to use nearby heathland. The charity’s existing management practices, such as one-to-one dog handling, the use of double-ended leads for control, and immediate response to barking, demonstrate their commitment to minimizing any disturbance.
4. Proactive Community and Environmental Engagement:
o Waggy Tails has an established relationship with the Amphibian Reptile Conservation Trust, who have raised no concerns and provided useful advice. The charity’s proactive approach in community engagement and animal welfare education further underscores their dedication to responsible operation.
5. Urgent Need for Better Facilities:
o Given the urgent need for better facilities to accommodate the increasing number of animals requiring emergency housing, especially in the wake of the pandemic and economic challenges, it is crucial that Waggy Tails is allowed to proceed with their relocation plans. The new site will not only improve the welfare of the animals but also enhance the charity’s ability to serve the community effectively.
We Urge the Planning Committee to:
· Approve Waggy Tails’ planning application.
· Carry out the necessary Appropriate Assessment to confirm that the proposed mitigation measures will ensure no adverse effect on the integrity of the habitats.
