Grant Frisco ISD Students Phone Usage in Hallways and Classrooms
Grant Frisco ISD Students Phone Usage in Hallways and Classrooms
The Issue
We, the concerned students of Frisco Independent School District (FISD), urge the administration to reconsider the current policy that restricts phone usage in hallways and classrooms. We believe that allowing students to use their phones during appropriate times will enhance our educational experience, promote responsible technology use, and prepare us for the digital world we live in.
1. Enhancing Educational Experience:
Studies have shown that incorporating mobile devices into education can have numerous benefits. According to a research study conducted by Pearson Education, 83% of K-12 teachers agree that using mobile devices in classrooms improves student engagement and learning outcomes. Allowing limited phone usage during class breaks or group activities can foster collaboration, research opportunities, and access to educational apps.
2. Promoting Responsible Technology Use:
By granting students permission to use phones responsibly within school premises, FISD can play an active role in teaching us how to manage technology effectively. A survey conducted by Common Sense Media found that 89% of teenagers own a smartphone; therefore, it is crucial for schools to teach responsible usage rather than outright banning them. Allowing controlled access will help develop our digital citizenship skills while fostering a healthy relationship with technology.
3. Preparing for the Digital World:
In today's interconnected society, digital literacy is essential for success beyond high school. By integrating smartphones into our daily routines at school under supervision guidelines set by FISD administration, we can gain valuable experience navigating online resources responsibly while staying updated with current events and information relevant to our studies.
4. Safety Measures Already in Place:
We understand concerns regarding distractions caused by excessive phone usage; however, it is important to note that FISD already has policies addressing this issue through classroom management techniques such as cell phone holders or designated areas for device storage during instructional time.
We respectfully request that Frisco ISD administration review and revise the current policy to allow students to use their phones in hallways and occasionally during class, under reasonable guidelines. This change will not only benefit our educational experience but also prepare us for the digital world we are growing up in.
We, the students of FISD, believe that by embracing responsible phone usage within school premises, we can foster a positive learning environment while equipping ourselves with essential skills for future success. Together, let's embrace technology as a tool for growth and progress.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
