Grant Family Visits for Incarcerated Individuals in Florida

Grant Family Visits for Incarcerated Individuals in Florida
The Issue
This petition is deeply personal to me. My friend, who was only 18 when he committed his crime, is about to face a severe penalty. He's on the brink of losing precious years of his life - years that could be spent building a family and creating memories.
Incarceration should not mean the end of personal relationships or the chance to start a family. Yet in Florida, like many other states, Family visits are not allowed for incarcerated individuals. This policy can have devastating effects on their mental health and rehabilitation process.
According to studies conducted by various institutions such as Yale Law School, allowing prisoners Family visits can reduce instances of prison violence and improve inmate behavior (Yale Law Journal). Moreover, it has been found that maintaining strong familial ties during incarceration significantly reduces recidivism rates (American Sociological Review).
Therefore, we urge the Florida Department of Corrections to reconsider its stance on this matter. Let's humanize our penal system by allowing those who are incarcerated an opportunity for intimacy and connection with their loved ones.
Please sign this petition today and help us bring about this much-needed change in our justice system.
