Grant equal firearm carry rights to active-duty military

Grant equal firearm carry rights to active-duty military
The Issue
As a dedicated service member, I am trusted to defend and protect the interests of our nation, often being deployed with an M4 rifle. Yet, it is utterly frustrating and disheartening to face restrictions when attempting to drive to Illinois with a legally owned handgun. We willingly put our lives on the line for the safety and security of the United States, only to be denied our Second Amendment rights due to varying state laws.
The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) ensures that law enforcement officers have the right to carry concealed firearms across state lines. This legislation was designed to recognize and respect the training and responsibility entrusted to those who serve the public. However, despite our similar training and commitment, active-duty military personnel are not afforded the same rights when off-duty within the borders of our own country.
Notably, there are over 1.3 million active-duty military members in the United States, many of whom face these unnecessary and unjust constraints. These laws not only limit our freedom but also go against the very rights enshrined in the Constitution—rights that we vow to defend.
We propose a legislative change to extend LEOSA’s provisions to active-duty military members, granting us equal rights to carry firearms across state lines. This change would honor our service and sacrifice, ensuring that we are afforded the same respect and trust as law enforcement officers when it comes to our nation's gun laws.
We need the support of lawmakers to recognize the legitimate need for this policy adjustment. By aligning military rights with those of law enforcement, we are not only acknowledging the capabilities and responsibilities of our service members but also upholding the constitutional rights we fight to protect.
Please sign this petition to urge Congress to take action. Let us unify our voices in demanding the equitable treatment that our commitment to national service has earned us. Thank you for your support.
