The Issue

My beloved husband is currently serving time in prison, a place meant for justice not for exacerbating illness. Diagnosed with severe dementia in 2014, his condition has worsened over the course of his sentence, wrongfully intensifying his suffering. Prison is ill-suited to provide the care he needs, but a loving and familiar environment can make a significant difference on his journey.

He isn't merely an inmate; he is a loving husband, trusted friend, cherished son, and proud father. His compassionate heart isn't defined by his crime, but by the love and selflessness he shows towards his family and friends. His condition has been exacerbated by the prison environment and isolation from his loved ones.

Mental health in prisons continues to worsen, with approximately 40% of jail inmates in the U.S. suffering from some form of mental illness, according to a report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. It is unjust and inhumane to have those diagnosed with severe dementia serving out their sentences under these conditions.

We are pleading for compassionate release not only for my husband but for all prisoners suffering from severe dementia. Their place isn't in prison alongside hardened criminals, but at home with dedicated care, love, and support.

We beg for your voice in advocating for my husband's humane and compassionate release, granting him the chance to live the remaining days of his life surrounded by loved ones. Please help him come home and sign this petition to bring about this change.
