I'm reaching out from a place of personal experience and concern. Enforced students' departure from dorms during breaks is an issue close to my heart. Like many of us, I believe each student should have the right to decide whether to stay in the dorms during breaks or not. Not everyone has the comfort of staying with their families all the time, and for others, it's physically impossible to be near them. This situation makes them endure unnecessary struggles and distress.

Suspending the privilege of remaining in the dorms, colleges strip away the stability and secure environment these dormitories provide for many students. Also troubling is that these departures are often enforced without consideration for individual circumstances.

While there's a perception that students gravitate towards going home during breaks, 2020 University of Nevada, Las Vegas' survey showed that 37% of students on average chose to remain in their dorms during school breaks. This statistic illustrates the importance of this issue to a significant portion of the student body.

Our fundamental demand is to grant students full autonomy to make a personal choice regarding their stay in dorms during breaks. Let's promote inclusive policies that speak to everyone's unique circumstances and ensure all students are comfortable and safe during their college journey.
