Grant Clemency to Ashtyn Long a member of the LGBTQ community
The Issue
The following petition for clemency is being circulated on behalf of Anthony "Ashtyn'' long who is currently incarcerated at federal corrections institution (FCI) WILLIAMSBURG IN SALTERS SOUTH CAROLINA.
Despite being a first time offender with zero criminal history points Anthony was sentenced to 16 years for a non violent drug offense and a non violent money laundering charge. As a result of this excessive punishment we the LGBTQ+ community have come together to seek president Bidens grace and compassion in exercising his clemency powers to commute or reduce Anthony's sentence from 16 years to 8 years. Like other members of the LGBTQ community Anthony has struggled to make the transition from being a gay man in the free world to being a gay man in prison, regardless of the harsh conditions and extreme circumstances he has shown tremendous resilience and has gone above and beyond to change his life around. To be sure, since his incarceration Anthony has endeavored to become an aspiring author and is on the verge of completing his first novel based on his life story outside in the real world and behind bars. Anthony hopes that his book will serve as an inspiration for all those facing the same struggle and prays that other similarly situated gay men will be able to find comfort and strength through his example and testimony. Over the past two years Anthony has completed or earned 500 hours of unicor work credit, completed the keys to success program, drug education, beginning spanish, hiv'aids awareness, various health fair programs and unit art orientation classes. In addition Anthony will soon be graduating from the non residential drug treatment program and is also serving as a counselor and facilitator with the non residential 'mat' program for those battling opioid addiction. Last but certainly not least Anthony has just finished his training and certification to be a part of the prisons suicide watch suicide prevention team where he will be volunteering to look out and monitor and assist inmates who have lost their way and are contemplating suicide. Let it be known Anthony is not perfect by any means and has made his share of mistakes but we are confident he will atone for his mistakes through his redeeming qualities and prove that he is worthy of a second chance. In support of Anthony "Ashtyn'' long's application for clemency we are humbly asking all of you who sympathize with Anthony's plight for freedom to please sign the following petition below and offer your comments to president Biden. We thank you for your time and your consideration in this very important matter... respectfully submitted, the LGBTQ+ community at large.
