As an African American, I have faced countless instances of racism in the United States. This is not just my story, but the story of millions of black people across this nation. It's time we address this issue by acknowledging the importance and significance of Black History Month in a tangible way.

We propose that all black people should be given a month off from all responsibilities including school, work (with pay), chores, paying bills etc., during Black History Month. This will serve as an opportunity for rest, reflection and celebration of our heritage.

According to Pew Research Center, racial stress and trauma are real issues affecting African Americans due to systemic racism (Pew Research Center 2020). A break during February could provide much-needed respite from these stresses.

This is not just about taking a break; it's about recognizing the contributions and struggles of black people in America. It's about making space for healing and growth within our community.
