Grant all members a say in Ramapough Mountain Indian business

The Issue

There have been ongoing questions concerning membership and management of RMI funds being mismanaged. There is suspicion that there may have been/be some individuals who took advantage of their position of power. There has been reports that allegedly the following crimes were committed which negatively impact all members:

Embezzlement of Tribal funds
Tax evasion
Misappropriation of Tribal funds
Fraud
Impersonation of an indigenous person to  acquire grants and property
Money laundering
Property theft
This petition is to propose that all RMI related business be made public to all Ramapough people. This should include financial records of all things owned by the Tribe, meeting minutes from all meetings related to RMI decisions, and advance notice of decisions being made that will lead to a cost in excess of $1,000 to give all members an opportunity to participate in such decisions.

Minutes should be taken in all meetings that concern RMI business as to create transparency to support a trusting relationship between members and members who hold positions of power in the Tribe.

We are also requesting that the New Jersey Office of Grant Management and the Federal Trade Commission conduct an audit related to all grant funds received on behalf of the Ramapough Lenape Tribe, including those under the name Sweetwater, Ramapough Mountain Indians, Ramapo Munsee Land Alliance and the Three Sisters Medicinal Farm to ensure funds are being used for the appropriate purpose.

If any evidence is uncovered indicating a mismanagement of funds, we ask that the individual parties be held accountable for the crimes they committed, and the Tribe not be held liable for those individuals' egregious acts.

We all will benefit from these proposed actions by being able to support the legitimacy of this Tribe through strong record keeping and cohesively working towards goals.
