The Issue

As someone who lives with ADHD and autism, I often find it overwhelming to navigate through environments crowded with people and constrained by long waiting lines. This is not just my personal struggle; it is a significant barrier for countless individuals like myself who visit Merlin Entertainment parks and attractions.

Merlin Entertainments, one of the global leaders in location-based entertainment, welcomes millions of visitors each year to its renowned attractions like LEGOLAND, Alton Towers, and Madame Tussauds. While Merlin has made strides to accommodate various needs, there is a glaring oversight when it comes to supporting individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and autism. Those who endure the mental strain of long queues often miss out on the joyous and enriching experiences these venues offer.

People with ADHD and autism often have difficulties with sensory processing and can experience heightened anxiety and stress in crowded places. This is exacerbated by long waiting times, which can lead to sensory overload, anxiety meltdown, or emotional distress, turning what should be a joyful day out into an unbearable situation.

Other entertainment giants, like Disney, have led by example with their Disability Access Service (DAS), which allows for greater flexibility and reduces the necessity to wait in long queues. There’s empirical evidence that confirms such initiatives significantly enhance the experience for neurodivergent individuals and their families, reducing stress and increasing levels of enjoyment. We urge Merlin Entertainments to adopt a similar policy and offer access passes to visitors with ADHD and autism.

By implementing an access pass solution, Merlin can position itself as an industry leader in inclusivity, offering a more welcoming environment for every visitor. It's time for Merlin to be part of the change, providing equal opportunities to enjoy their fantastic attractions for everyone, regardless of their neurological differences.

Join me in asking Merlin Entertainments to recognize the significance of ADHD and autism and to implement access passes that cater to these needs effectively. Sign this petition and help make Merlin a more inclusive space for all!
