The Issue
Our college, SISTec, remains one of the few institutions not granting a summer break despite the overwhelming heat wave affecting the region. As students, we are enduring unmanageable temperature levels that are not only uncomfortable but are also detrimental to our health and academic performances.
Other colleges have acknowledged the severity of the situation and have granted holidays to give their students a much-needed relief from the scorching weather. However, we find ourselves stuck in classrooms, struggling to concentrate and fulfill mandatory attendance requirements while the temperature continues to rise.
Statistics from the Indian Meteorological Department indicate that this is one of the hottest summers on record. The heat wave is affecting daily life, increasing health risks such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and making it increasingly difficult for students and staff to cope.
The administration must address this issue by temporarily suspending classes or moving to online sessions until the weather allows for a safe and productive learning environment. Instituting a summer holiday can prevent heat-related illnesses and improve the well-being of the student body.
Together, we can urge the SISTec administration to reconsider their stance. Please join me in signing this petition. Your support can make a substantial difference for all of us enduring these extreme conditions.
