The Issue

To the United States Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Members of Congress, & U.S. Elected Officials. I am requesting that you reflect upon your sworn oaths & ultimately decide to show your support in a tumultuous time of incomprehensible grief & urgent need. My father, Carlos Alberto Gonzalez, a Mexican citizen currently in Ciudad Juárez, is the father of U.S. Army Sergeant, Daniel Antonio Gonzalez, who passed away just days ago, on May 17th 2025. He is also the Father of two U.S. Navy veterans. Not just a Dad of one but three children who have served this country. And yet, despite sacrifices & ties to the U.S. military, my father has been denied even the opportunity to apply for humanitarian parole. Border Patrol at the International bridge in El Paso turned him away without consideration. Now, he is being kept from attending his own son’s funeral.  If this continues, a father will be permanently separated from his child in death. There will be no final embrace. No moment to say a proper goodbye. No way to honor his son’s service together as a family. This denial doesn’t just cause emotional devastation. It undermines the very values of dignity, family, & respect that we hold dear in this country. What message does it send when the father of a deceased soldier, who has raised multiple children who were willing to live, fight & die for this nation through service is turned away from opportunity in the very land of opportunity?  Time is of the essence & the funeral will proceed with or without him. If officials delay, they will be complicit in the denial of human rights & creating an everlasting wound that cannot be healed or made right. This is not about politics or policy. It’s about compassion & honoring the life of a fallen soldier by letting his father lay him to rest. It’s about honoring the promises this country has promised it’s people. It’s about honoring the foundation of American values.

We urge all officials to intervene immediately. Allow my father the temporary compassionate entry needed to say goodbye to his son. We are calling on every person with power to act. Please don’t let this moment pass & let America show the love this country has for their courageous service men & the families they hail from.
