Grant 5 Days of Term-Time Leave for Children with EHCP or SEN

Grant 5 Days of Term-Time Leave for Children with EHCP or SEN
The Issue
As a parent of an autistic child, I understand the unique challenges that children with Educational Healthcare Plans (EHCP) or Special Education Needs (SEN) face. My son occasionally struggles both at school and home due to his mental health and the curriculum's demands. Moreover, taking holidays during peak times can be incredibly distressing for him due to his Autism diagnosis. The crowded destinations, long queues for rides, excursions - all these contribute to regular meltdowns and significantly diminish the joy of our family holiday experience.
It is crucial that we consider these factors when discussing school attendance requirements for children with EHCP or SEN. Therefore, this petition calls on educational authorities to allow these children five days of school leave per year during term time.
The current rules around this mean both parents can receive fines however the new system will mean parents could receive a hefty fine of £160 per parent per child and even face court charges.
This is another stress on SEN parents heads which we do not need.
This policy change would provide much-needed respite for these children while also enabling families like ours to plan holidays during quieter periods - a small but significant step towards making their experiences more enjoyable.
According to Ambitious about Autism, 1 in every 100 people in the UK has autism; this means approximately 120,000 school-aged children are affected by this condition alone. These figures do not include those with other special educational needs who could also benefit from such a policy change.
By signing this petition, you support thousands of families across the UK who need flexibility in managing their child's education alongside their unique needs. Let us ensure that our education system is inclusive and considerate towards all its students' needs by granting them five days of term-time leave per year, for much need days out, respite, trips and holidays out of busy periods.
