Revise sexist dress codes in Granite School District.

The Issue

Tank tops should be allowed in school. Everytime I have ever asked a teacher or any school staff why girls can't wear tank tops in school the answer is always "it is distracting to the boys". This implies that a boy's education is more valuable than girl's education because if a boy is immature enough to be distracted by a girl's shoulder then she must miss out on her education to be sent to the principal's office or sent home in order to make a better learning environment for boys. I interviewed a total of 30 boys from skyline high school, asking them if they have ever been distracted by girl's shoulder in school or any environment for that matter. All 30 boys said they have never been distracted by a girl's shoulders. I then asked a 50 girls from Skyline High School if they have ever been dress-coded for showing shoulders and of those girls 26 had been dress-coded for showing their shoulders and the majority of the rest said they have never worn a tank top in school due to fear of being dress-coded, although they wish they could.  This dress code is extremely outdated and continuously sexualizes young girls, making them feel like something as harmless as their shoulders has to be covered up in order to make others comfortable. I understand that repeals to the dresscode would have their limitations such as no cleavage or short shorts (which is also rooted in the sexualization of young girls but start small). Girls, or anyone for that matter, should not be punished for their peers immaturity. If the reasoning for tank tops being banned for girls is due to the possibility of a bra strap being shown, then I would be more than happy to just not wear a bra at all, but I have a feeling that would not go over well with the dresscode. Adults, or anyone for that matter, should not be sexualizing young girls so much that they find something as simple and innocent as a shoulder or bra strap offensive. Young bodies are not offensive and should not be made to feel that way.
