Grandma’s Village: Building a Stronger Bronx, One Generation at a Time
The Issue
For years, Reasons Children’s Organization has proudly served children and families throughout the Bronx. Founded in 2016 by Sonia Henry, who has dedicated more than 30 years to caring for Bronx children and families, Reasons Children’s Organization was created from a simple belief: our community should be a place where people feel safe, supported, connected, and cared for.
Over the years, we have brought that belief to life through community events, resource fairs, health fairs, back-to-school giveaways, holiday celebrations, and programs that bring families together. Our Health Fair welcomed more than 1,000 people, our 2025 Back-to-School Giveaway supported more than 560 children, and our community celebrations have continued to create spaces where Bronx families can come together.
Now, we want to create something special for our grandmas, grandpas, and seniors in the Bronx.
Our elders hold so much value in our families and our communities. They are the keepers of our stories, traditions, culture, and life lessons. They have raised children, supported families, built neighborhoods, and helped shape the Bronx we love today. But we also know that as generations change, the connection between them can become harder to maintain. Grandma’s Village is our vision for bridging that gap.
We want to create a welcoming space where our grandmas, grandpas, and seniors can come together, make new friends, learn new technology, participate in activities and workshops, take community trips, share their stories, and continue to feel connected to the community around them. This is not just about giving our seniors something to do. It is about recognizing their value and making sure they continue to have a voice, a purpose, and a place in the community.
Grandma’s Village can also become a bridge between generations. Imagine our young people sitting with their grandparents and learning family stories, traditions, skills, and life lessons that cannot be found in a textbook. Imagine our seniors learning new technology from younger generations while sharing the wisdom they have gained throughout their lives. That is the kind of community we want to build.
Reasons Children’s Organization has always believed in bringing people together and bridging gaps in our community. Our work has connected Bronx families to resources, education, health information, and opportunities for support.
