Change the Native American mascot at South Grand Prairie High School

Change the Native American mascot at South Grand Prairie High School
The Issue
South Grand Prairie High Schools’ mascot is a Native American man which is highly racist and offensive. The fight song also uses the warrior chop which is sang during anything football related. The mascot is a non-Native American dressed as a Native American man while doing Native dances. Everything to do from the mascot and chants during games is racist. Please sign this petition to get the mascot changed. They justify it by calling them warriors but in reality it’s very racist towards Native Americans. The school even has a Native American statue that is incased on the second floor. It has made many people uncomfortable and should not be a mascot. We hope the school and GPISD sees how many people care, and them themselves realize how racist this is and change the mascot.
