Change the Grafton High School Mascot

Change the Grafton High School Mascot
Why this petition matters

We propose changing the racist and insensitive Grafton “Indian” mascot
In the United States approximately 2,000 schools still use Indigenous Americans and their symbols as mascots, including Grafton Public Schools. Studies have shown that these mascots can be incredibly detrimental to Indigenous American mental health and culture. It is unjust for us to go by the “Grafton Indians” when we are not taught a full and accurate representation of Indigenous American history. Indigenous Americans are not figureheads for our sports teams and they do not belong on our gymnasium floor. This change is long overdue and we hope that you will support the cause by signing this petition. Below are links to websites that can provide more information on this issue.

*We are trying to do good with this petition. If this is harmful or displays any ignorance please let me know! We are doing this petition because of the article linked above that says the Native American tribe located in Grafton, part of the Nipmuc Nation, said they voted that mascots called Indians are offensive. We are not trying to speak for the indigenous population of Grafton.
