It's high time we all should start thinking about our future and about our future generation. The way we are using up our environment we are not even sure whether it will sustain for upcoming 200 years or not. But why we should care about 200 years ! That is something our selfish counterpart says every time.
Few days back I was reading a news that Bengaluru witnessed a staggering growth of 525% in built-up area in the past 40 years. This in terms of growth is a very applaud-able figure. But what about other resources it ruined! Bangalore was one of the finest and livable city in India, but it is no more. The effects of the disturbed environment primarily due to our negligence, can be widely seen now. Bangalore did witness highest temperature this year. The traffic is unmanageable, and pollution is beyond control.
The only thing we do is to blame the government and other's while seated comfortably in AC cars and homes. But we forget that if there is traffic, we are the part of it too. Does passing the blame on someone else solves the situation. I don’t think so.
Once my teacher told me "If You have problems, then only you can be a solution to those problems". I think this is what namma Bengaluru requires now. Let’s join hands to revert our dear city to beautiful Bengaluru.
Research says A bus can reduce the traffic of 40 cars. Even Car-pooling can add to that stats. It’s just in our thoughts.“Nature gives everything for your need, not your greed" , We need to just change the way we think.
Bangalore was a city of lakes but If you look back into history and compare with our current situation, More than 90% of Bangalore's lakes are polluted or encroached. Same is the case with the green covers and the forest areas. This is just not about Bangalore, the situation is same in most parts of our country. This is a serious consequence of our negligence and over-use of resources.
Research says on an average a person needs 8 trees in his entire lifespan but if we calculate all the extra needs like books, notebooks, greeting cards and tissue paper etc., the number goes to 16. But the question is how many trees do we plant in our entire life? Today there are only a handful of trees in Bangalore, and this situation is in entire country. "Bangalore's already facing the result of reckless tree felling as authorities take shortcuts to kill the city's flora. No one thinks of long-term side-effects," says Kapil Sharma, founder of Saytrees, a group of techies working for the cause of trees in Bangalore. The city has seen trees vanishing faster than what it was calculated on papers. In the last 4-5 years, official estimates show that over 50,000 trees have been axed for road widening alone. It has just one tree for seven of its citizens, with the ratio even lower in some areas. I have seen a lot of builder's cutting trees to construct Villas and establish township.
Because of our carelessness we don't have fresh air to breath and also pure water to drink.
Question : What can we do to save namma bengaluru ?
1. Need trees..trees...trees and trees !
2. A promotion of cycle tracks and awareness about benefits of cycling.
3. Use of more public conveyance. And Car-pool to office/company buses.
4. Foot over bridges with escalators to help pedestrians
5. Restrict the number of vehicles you own to max of two. (One two wheeler and one four wheeler probably is good enough)
6. Restriction on a single owner buying many houses and flats.
7. Government needs to take strict action against builders to construct apartment and villas who violate rules and norms.
8. At least one tree for every Flat and 5 trees for Villa.
9. Enforcement of rain water harvesting in each soceity having more than 5 flats…
10. Encroachment of lakes, parks, grounds should be dealt on high priority.
We need to join hands to a greener Bengaluru… namma bengaluru
