Americans are facing disastrous levels of joblessness, hunger, foreclosure and debt, creating greater demand for human services. Closing or consolidating centers providing human services and rehab services during a time of increased need is financially unnecessary, logistically unworkable and bad for the people of Illinois.
• Services should be delivered in the communities where they are needed, not large, impersonal “mega-offices”
• Closing any office makes things worse for everyone, adding to overcrowded, understaffed conditions
• People with disabilities, seniors and the poor will be forced to travel farther, using less accessible public transit- many will simply be unable to get to service centers
• People and records will inevitably be “lost in the shuffle”
