Safety Measures around Southern Fauquier Intersections

Safety Measures around Southern Fauquier Intersections
The Issue
The recent changes to the intersection at Route 29/Freeman's Ford Rd in Remington, Virginia have led to an increase in traffic accidents. This past weekend, within 12 hours of each other, two major accidents occurred. The accidents required 4 life flights out of the accident scene - all patients were children/minors.
Motor vehicle operators run the red lights at this intersection with reckless abandon. The speed limit is set at a speed that instills a false comfort that this road is an interstate when, in fact, there are multiple driveways, stop lights, and frequent farm vehicles. The flashing yellow turn light is a steady hazard.
Some possible improvements that could make this intersection, and others in the vicinity safer include:
1. Reducing the speed limit from 60mph to 50mph, creating a "safety corridor".
2. Installing rumble strips at a safe distance from the traffic light(s) to re-focus distracted drivers.
3. Removing the blinking yellow turn lane lights.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge VDOT and the Commonwealth of Virginia to act now to consider all possible design parameters to provide for a safe intersection for all who traverse this route daily.
