The mini lobster season is an annual, two-day period that always falls on the last Wednesday and Thursday of July. This is an event that allows people to get lobsters before the big boats do. The problem is that the majority of people who participate do not seem to have any regards or respect for our community, our sea life, or the rules and guidelines. How do we know this? Through the regular reports of search and seizures of too numerous to count undersized lobster and other sea life. Add to that, over the last 10 years, the two-day season in Florida accounted for almost half of all underwater hunting deaths in the state. In addition, many other lobster hunters suffer non-life-threatening injuries or end up in hospital emergency rooms.

It is time to end this barbaric event that does nothing but continue to cause harm to our already delicate ecosystem.
