My family has been devastated by the outrageous sentence our 3 sons received in Rockingham Circuit Court in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In 2001 our sons, Richard Hughes Jr, Shannon Hughes and Shawn Hughes were invited to a college party by some girls at a local bar. They were asked to leave the party and obliged and were at their car in the parking lot getting ready to leave when they were attacked by a mob of drunken college students. . Witnesses testified that there were 10-15 college students on each of them beating them. They had to defend themselves from being killed. Yet they were charged with Malicious wounding by mob and sentenced to 30 years in prison. The local police and judicial system turned it around on them to make them the aggressors. The commonwealths witnesses lied about the events that happened that night. They have all gone on with their lives but our sons have served 18 years in prison. It's time they get to come home.
