Arrest Los Porkys and initiate criminal proceedings against them

The Issue

Daphne Fernández, a minor living in Veracruz, Mexico, was raped more than a year ago. During the alleged incident, she was forced into a car, isolated, vexed, subdued and sexually abused. Daphne recently moved forward to publicly identify her attackers as Jorge Cotaita Cabrales, Diego Cruz Alonso, Gerardo Rodríguez Acosta and Enrique Capitaine Marín, the perpetrator. This group of young men call themselves Los Porkys.

The offenders are still free. No charges have been pressed, and they have not even been interrogated, probably because they belong to the economic and political elite of Veracruz.

This case is a clear example of absolute impunity. It involves the children of powerful business men and politicians linked to the current administration and police, who are apparently protected by the Veracruz Governor and the District Attorney.

This is why we ask that Los Porkys be arrested and formal criminal proceedings be initiated against them immediately.

The Governor has declared that justice will be served, but he does not seem to understand that the situation gets worse every day. Not only because of the pain that the young girl and her family suffer, but because this case puts the Veracruz population at risk. They are so tired of the impunity that they want to take justice into their own hands.

Not arresting the perpetrators (whom by the way declared their crime on video) once again highlights the government’s inability to do justice, and the evident protection of the powerful. Arresting Los Porkys and making them pay for their heinous crime would be a triumph of legality and justice. It would open the possibility to reconstruct the rule of law in Veracruz.

We've waited too long for justice for Daphne and her family: Sign this petition calling on Los Porkys to be arrested and for formal criminal proceedings to be immediately initiated against them. Thank you.
