Keep kids in extra curricular activities in ND.
Keep kids in extra curricular activities in ND.
The Issue
Hi, I’m just a citizen of ND, a grandma and a past educator who has worked with kids at risk. My masters degree is in Ed Leadership and my thesis was on identifying children who may drop out. Why am I telling you this? So that you know I have a background with youth, and have common sense, grandchildren and a relationship with a dispatcher who takes lots of tough calls. The states own research says “ since Feb 2nd, 41 males under 17 have died in ND - none from covid. 31 young ladies under 17 have died - none from covid https://data.cdc.gov/NCHS/Provisional-COVID-19-Death-Counts-by-Sex-Age-and-S/9bhg-hcku Our kids are at risk attempted suicides numbers and actual suicides are real. Students need to be in school and they need to be in extra curricular activities. Take the precautions, social distance, leave parents at home but, allow young people to have places to vent their fear, their anguish, their puberty. Allow them to celebrate their youth and have a hope and reason to look forward. Kids think that what is happening today is their life; we as adults have to allow them a reason to move forward, to look forward and to not feel that this is it and that their lives are futile. I’m not saying throw common sense to the wind; I’m saying let’s hang on to common sense and allow them to participate.
