The Issue

The SLEEP Act is unjust and unfair to responsible car enthusiasts. Targeting the car community as a whole because of a few isn’t right. We all know that several of you in our state legislature own muscle cars which are loud or own motorcycles that are loud even from the factory. The people who complain about the exhaust noise do they also complain about trains planes emergency sirens and tractor trailers? This is without a doubt another way for the state to attack the car community as well as the motorcycle community. Raising the fine to 1000 dollars is also an outrageous amount! What average working New York State resident has that kind of money to pay for a fine of that amount when we are the highest taxed state in the country!? This do as I say not as I do approach from the older generation is just hypocritical. Your generation was brought up during the time of muscle cars and rock and roll and you were out there doing what you’re targeting us for now! The time effort, energy and above all TAX DOLLARS put into making these bills and laws could be better used on I don’t know say our public highways! Instead you give yourselves pay raises and push for things that benefit you first and not your residents. I am starting this petition to have the SLEEP ACT repealed and for the legislature to please consider the responsible car community and motorcycle community in this matter. We can do a better job of coming up with a compromise then just slamming us with super high dollar fines. The state has decibel laws already in place that law enforcement can enforce rather then also forcing repair and inspection facilities to measure decibel levels to pass vehicles for New York State inspection. Mufflers do not cause excess pollution they were designed to quiet exhaust levels. A catalytic converter was designed to control emissions not mufflers. In closing I would like to see the SLEEP ACT repealed or atleast amended to a more fair law and or fine level. Car enthusiasts will continue to do exhaust modifications as they want to be unique and enjoy the sounds of there engines profile as well as our hard work and effort.
