Allow youth sports to practice outside

The Issue

Governor Ned Lamont and the CIAC have directed that all school and youth athletics be “paused” until at least January 19th.  The children in our communities are suffering both mentally and physically due to school closures, limited interaction with their peers and now the elimination of all sports.  Our children need to be active and interact with their peers in order to stay healthy in both body and mind.  This directive robs children of a vital human need and could lead to depression and loneliness.  While Governor Lamont and CIAC are trying to lower exposure to Covid 19 amongst our youth, science does not support this response. There was not an instance of superspreading or even a high level of transmission during fall outdoor sports.

I would like these two entities to revisit their directive to allow sports teams to practice outdoors with their teams.  With proper guidance and monitoring, this can be done safely.

Masks would be required during all trainings.

Teams would only train within their clubs and limited to their respective teams.

The athletes could maintain proper social distancing during practices.

With these precautions put in place, all kids could safely practice with their clubs, schools and team mates.  They would maintain a healthy, strong body and mind.  It would give them structure and a positive attitude.

Please support this petition and help our kids stay heathy and and strong.
