Re-open local private grooming businesses

The Issue

When Safer in Place began in Oklahoma City March 25th 2020 all private grooming salons were closed for business.

Corporate grooming salons, vet clinics and boarding facilities were all allowed to remain open and continue operations.

Privately owned grooming salons both mobile and storefronts have suffered from being closed for so long. They are just as capable of keeping a safe clean disinfected and socially distant operations as the corporate facilities. We are asking that you reopen those privately owned grooming salons who feel safe and do want to resume operations.

We truly believe that groomers can meet and exceed all CDC and OSHA guidelines regarding social distance, disinfecting, and safety. Many groomers operate alone or in groups of 2 or 3. We can restrict all contact, by doing curbside drop off and pickup, yard retrieval for mobiles, adding a gate system to store fronts, etc.

We would like to add the fact very few veterinarians are set up to include grooming as a service, their time is better served to evaluate and fix underlying problems in their clients. We also feel that corp stores are very public settings, with tiny salon settings that will generally infringe upon their 6 ft CDC guidelines. We groomers will do our part to follow and exceed CDC guidelines. Our grooming stations are 6ft apart and we sterilize between clients.
We are capable of conducting our business in a very safe atmosphere for not only our clients but staff and ourselves as well.

Please consider letting us become an essential business as we have already maintained a very sterile environment because we know it is crucial to grooming as it prohibits cross contamination with in the canine community. We also beg you to please contact other city Mayors and the Governor to allow us to get back to business.

Again thank you for your time and consideration.
