Dear Change.org,

I want to change the law for squatters.  The law is for people who freeload off of hard working people.  This law needs to change before someone gets seriously hurt.  My dad is a elderly man renting a three bedroom house.  He decided to rent out two of the rooms to a co worker and also his coworker's girlfriend.  The coworker's girlfriend/squatter/boarder who's name is Carmen Maltese decided after living there for two months that she did not want to pay her portion of the rent , which is $400 and she also decided to move in her so-called "husband" who didn't offer to pay any rent either.  So we called the police to have them removed from the property but we were told by the local police that we had to go to the court here in Savannah Georgia and request a eviction letter which cost $80. Carmen Maltese was served by the law enforcement.  But Carmen Maltese filed an appealed.  So May 26 at 8:45 am we all had to go court to speak with the judge about the situation.  When it was our turn to present the case to judge the judge allowed Carmen Maltese to speak first after the judge heard her speak he started to yell at her asking why is she there and how can she stay anywhere without paying.  We didn't have to say a word because the judge said everything we were thinking and wanted to say.  The judge said we won the case an that Carmen Maltese had seven days which was June 1st to leave the property and also pay the rent owed which is $800 plus court fees.  So we were thinking just seven more days and this nightmarish lady would be gone, but not quite.  I called the court Wednesday May 31st to find out the process of my dad getting the money that Carmen Maltese owes him because she had made several comments to him that she was not going to pay my dad anything. I was told that if she was not gone on the seventh day that we would have to come back to the court Monday June 5th an pay additional $25 to have a sheriff come to the house on this same day and have her and her things removed and also pay additional $149 to garnish her pay and bank account.  We went to court today June 5th 2017 to pay all these fees and now we were told that we have to call the sheriff office on June 7th to set an appointment for a sheriff to finally remove this very mean,rude,nasty and mentally challenged lady from my dad's house.  So that's an additional three days.  This has got to change because it not fair for hardworking taxpaying people. I am going to keep writing and posting until something changes.  This is not the end..
