Bring back our salmon

The Issue

Salmon have been cut off from their spawning grounds by development around the Puget Sound. The Edmonds Marsh is one such place: the tidal channel that traditionally flowed from the Marsh to the Sound was buried in a 1600 foot pipe, coming into salt water at a depth too deep for salmon.
To return the Edmonds Marsh into a fully functioning estuary that can support salmon, the connection to Puget Sound must be freed from the pipe. Land adjacent to the Marsh, soon to become Washington State Dept. of Transportation (WSDOT) property, is the natural site for this creek restoration project. However WSDOT has not shown good faith in negotiations about use of this excess state property, blocking efforts to secure grant funding to restore the Marsh-Estuary.
Therefore we request that Governor Inslee exercise his authority to transfer the property from the State Department of Transportation to a state agency that can manage the property for the benefit of salmon and other wildlife.

The Edmonds Marsh is a rare and precious urban saltwater estuary — one of the few remaining in our Puget Sound — and its protection and restoration can help bring back our salmon.
