Hello supporters,
I'm pleased to announce that our petition "Governor Ige, please veto HB1567!" has been transmitted with receipt to the Office of the Governor via their contact form.
As of this update, a total of 8,922 signatures were collected along with 374 comments. Out of this total, the petition was reduced to 7,881 signatures from clearly identified Hawaii-based citizens. These signatures and comments were divided into two parts and transmitted to Governor Ige.
There is still time for you voice your concerns and your opinion on this matter. Governor Ige must signal his intent to veto HB1567 by June 27th. Please consider dropping him a message or contact his office directly via phone at the attached link.
If the bill is vetoed, it will not become law unless the Legislature successfully overrides the veto in special session by a 2/3 vote in each chamber and the Legislature must convene in special session at or before noon on July 12, 2022, to override the Governor's veto.
The Legislature could also amend a bill to answer the governor's objections. For it to become law, a majority of the members in each chamber would be required to vote in favor of the amended bill, and the Governor would then have 10 days to sign it. I sincerely want to thank every single one of you, especially those of you who donated to change.org to help further the message. Your support and your comments are so very important.
Let us all hope that Governor Ige makes the right choice and vetos this horrible legislation that will have dire effects on our community if it is passed. I will update as appropriate in the coming days.
