How many of us have been victims of crimes? Think for a moment, what was the outcome? Were the people responsible arrested and were they held accountable? Sadly, for over 94% of property crime victims, that is not the case.
KITV recently posted a new article covering the clearance rates for victims of crime from Jan 1st to Apr 30th to include both violent and property crime and in comparison to previous years. You can read the entire article at the attached link.
The truth is there in black and white...crime is up from last year. Criminals rarely are held accountable. And now, with HB1567, we'll be eliminating another deterrent against them. Mark this message...if HB1567 is passed, crime will get worse.
Suffice to say, I know solving crimes is difficult. And our HPD is undermanned. The Detectives I know do their best and they are absolutely overwhelmed. This also involves our entire court system and most especially our Prosecutor's Office. We need to start charging these repeat offenders with the habitual property crime charge and most importantly, they need to be convicted of it.
It's just very, very sad to see that the majority of people don't find resolution to being victimized, which is why letting these criminals go without accountability is just simply wrong.
Our mayors know this as well...all four Mayors for the State of Hawaii are against HB1567. I believe Mayor Blangiardi has also met with Governor Ige as well to express his sentiments. We appreciate their support of our communities.
Hawaii mayors want Gov. Ige to veto bail reform bill
Please continue to do your part...share our message to sign our petition to ask Governor Ige to veto HB1567. This will be the last time you can share your voice on this topic. Next year will be too late. We have 8,000 plus signatures thus far. Let's get to 10,000.
