Aloha Supporters,

Waking up to news like this is absolutely deflating and highly concerning. It makes you angry and is utterly frustrating. Since I began this petition, how many of our small, mom and pop businesses have been victimized by smash and grabs? 8 in one go from Hawaii Kai to Kahala today. 3 in Ewa Beach last week, several in Waipahu.  And yet our elected officials believe that reducing accountability for criminals is the way to go?

Just look at this up close footage of the multiple businesses that have been violated this morning.

Up to 8 local businesses have been burglarized from Hawaii Kai to Kahala overnight.

I have been keeping the updates to a minimum so as not to flood your inboxes, but we simply cannot stand for this. Enough is Enough. Please, I ask that all of you, who took the time to sign and share, again, share this petition to your family, friends, and coworkers.

We must send a strong message that bills like HB1567 simply aren't appropriate for our community.

Also, I would like to bring attention to the plight of Jennifer Reiko Smits, a woman who was sexually assaulted by a mentally unwell man at either the time or before of her passing at a bus stop. That man has been released pending investigation while the Prosecutor's Office determines what charges to file. Mind you, he was caught due to DNA evidence found at the scene as well as on surveillance during the sexual assault. He is an absolute danger to our community and I am alarmed that he was released...apparently our laws are ineffective in keeping folks like this off the street and away from our kupuna.

I have been in contact with Cassie-Lee, her daughter since she first posted in SSH. We were able to get her story on the news, but she also took time to post a heartfelt message to SSH that I would like to share. My best for her, and she has our continued support.

Cassie-Lee discusses the victimization of her mother in SSH

And the news story by KITV:

Daughter seeking justice and answers after mother found dead after being sexually assaulted

In addition to this message, I would also like to congratulate Chief Joe Logan for his selection as the new Chief of the Honolulu Police Department. My thanks also to Chief Rade Vanic for his service as interim Chief. I certainly hope Stolen Stuff Hawaii can work with Chief Logan to help reduce crime as well as continue to give a helping had to our already overworked and undermanned officers and detectives out there doing the job every day. My best for strong leadership and a successful time as Chief. I hope to introduce our group to him soon in a face to face after he settles in.

Retired National Guard Maj. Gen. Arthur ‘Joe’ Logan chosen as Honolulu’s next police chief

Again, thank you for your support. We will get this veto done.

Mahalo,

Michael Kitchens
