Remove Peter Talley's knighthood for services to business

The issue

Peter Tally (real name Peter Ivan Talijancich) should have his Knighthood removed. His company is a disgrace to all businesses who provide a caring and good faith approach to their employees.

Peter Tally was awarded a Knighthood for his services to business, how ever, over the last three years ACC has paid out $8 million to nearly 5000 Talley’s employees – that’s more than one injury for every worker employed by Talley’s companies. 1286 Talley’s workers were injured on the job last year alone.

Not only this, a second employee has been injured in an accident involving a meat hook at the Affco NZ plant in Rangiuru.

It is the same Bay of Plenty meatworks which was fined $30,000 this week after a meat hook penetrated Jason Matahiki's head, pulling him along the chain like a slaughtered sheep.

When an employee took a personal grievance case against the company, they responded by moving him to a lower-ranked role and dropping his pay.
The ERA ruling called it “an element of punishment” and ordered Talley’s owners South Pacific Meats to pay Doran $12,000 in lost wages and compensation.

Tally's redefined locked out workers as strikers so that those hundreds of families were no longer eligible for the emergency benefit.

This is not how you run a business, or treat your employees, this is why we must call on the Governor-General to remove Peter Tally's knighthood.
