WHEN ACTIONS IS TAKEN....
"IN EDUCATION THE LIFE OF THE MIND PROCEEDS GRADUALLY FROM SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTS TO INTELLECTUAL THEORIES, TO SPIRITUAL FEELING, AND THEN TO GOD". Kahlil Gibran ( 1883-1931)
Our team members at Moufpeez Publishing LLC wanted to interview a young man that is locked up at Lancaster State Prison, Los Angeles county so we reached out to a ambitious young blackman who was ex-gang member/ military veteran by the name of Mr.Farley (bottom left corner in image). He is currently serving a life sentence for murder. This young man decided to start a grass roots organization called Historically Black Correctional Universities #HBCU for incarcerated young men pursuing careers in authoring books and expounding there literary skills and invoking change in there community. This is Mr. Farley's story.
Q- What inspired you to create HBCU?
A- What inspired me ws the creativity thathoes unrecognized because of these prison walls. Not all inmates fit that hardcore narrative the media didplays to the public. Some of us like to aggrandize our minds and use our hidden talents for good.
Q- Is there any profound significance to the word correctional within HBCU?
A- Absolutely ! When people hear the word "correctional" they automatically think about prison. So to hear correctional universoty its mind boggling because most likely you've never heard or seen those two words dovetailed before. It piques the readers interest to know more about this contrast.
Q-What is your vision of HBCU?
A- My vision for HBCU is to bring awareness that black people are disproportionately incarcerated more than any ethnicity in the United States. We make up around 13% of the population yet represent 76% of the prison population. Also to place a light on education behind these walls.
Q- What is your mission statement?
A- (Laughs) I really never thought about a mission statement. I suppose I need to acquire one.
Q- Where can people purchase there books?
A- There books can be purchased through amazon like everything else. So theres absolutley no platitudes that couldnt find the books.
Q- What message would you like to tell other black authors behind bricks and razor wire?
A- First off. Shout out to all my people behind bars. Win, lose or draw we stand tall !!! To all my folks in the quest for knowledge, getting your associates ir bachelors through college, stay focused. Its easy to get distracted. As to specify authors, keep writing because there is no such thing as "writers block" I dont care if its a story about a banana peel. Write it. Galactical creativity that is in your subconscious will be envoked.
Q- Can you tell us about the other authors in the image?
A- Yeah- My boy to the left is Jason Keaton out of Compton, California. He's 33 years old serving 21 year. He decided to write a book to show that change is possible. The full story of cause and effect and also to honor his younger brother Chad Keaton. To the left is Perrie Thompson from South Central L A. He's 33 years old and serving a life sentence (Locked up at 17). Prison gave him the opportunity to see the true destructive nature of gangs and how he destroyed his life for nothing. Now as he strives for redemption. It is his duty and mission to warn the youth in a unfiltered mannee about the true reality of gangs. He also hopes that it deters them from joining gangs and saving many many lives.
Q- Who is the young man on the bottom right hand corner? Can you give a little back story on him?
A- Yes of course. On the bottom right is Henry Williams a.k.a. "H" who is out of Fairfield, California. He is 45 years old serving a 50-to-life sentence. He's written about three books so far. One is a urban crime drama called the Scraper. The other is a book of poems called Thee Book Of Ism " Original Lyrics & Poems" by. Don "Moufpeez" Williams. The last one is The Councilman " The True Crime Story Of Henry Don Williams" told by his son.
Q- Sounds like he's been very busy.
A-Well Mr. Williams is helping several brothers on the prison yard to publish there books.
Well on behalf of our team at Moufpeez Publishing LLC. We just want to say thank you for your time and patience in doing this interview. We hope it grows into something prosperous, educational and
inspire others to create.
