My name is Simone Harris and I am the mother of a son who has been sentenced to Life Plus 527 years. I am the Founder of the Unjustified Sentencing of Rashie Harris Foundation.  

My son is currently a decade into a Life Plus 527 Year Sentence.  He was sentenced under the 3 strike law.  His charges do not include murder.  No man woman or child is perfect and neither is our justice system.  

A habitual offender, repeat offender, or career criminal is a person convicted of a crime who was previously convicted of crimes. Various state and jurisdictions may have laws targeting habitual offenders, and specifically providing for enhanced or exemplary punishments or other sanctions. They are designed to counter criminal recidivismby physical incapacitation via imprisonment.

The nature, scope, and type of habitual offender statutes vary, but generally they apply when a person has been convicted twice for various crimes. Some codes may differentiate between classes of crimes (for example, some codes only deal with violent crime) and the length of time between convictions. Usually, the sentence is greatly enhanced; in some circumstances, it may be substantially more than the maximum sentence for the crime.

Habitual offender laws may provide for mandatory sentencing—in which a minimum sentence must be imposed, or may allow judicial discretion in allowing the court to determine a proper sentence.

WHY WE OPPOSE THE 3 STRIKE LAW"An 18-year old high school senior pushes a classmate down to steal his Michael Jordan $150 sneakers -- Strike One; he gets out of jail and shoplifts a jacket from the Bon Marche, pushing aside the clerk as he runs out of the store -- Strik e Two; he gets out of jail, straightens out, and nine years later gets in a fight in a bar and intentionally hits someone, breaking his nose -- criminal behavior, to be sure, but hardly the crime of the century, yet it is Strike Three. He is sent to prison for the rest of his life."

According to our legal research outside of the 3 strike law Mr. Harris under Delaware Statue would have received 13 years max.
