The Issue

Kwame Brown Sr. (professionally known as Foogiano) is a 1017 Global/Atlantic Records recording artist. He is currently serving a 60 month sentence in prison for removing an ankle monitor, after being placed on house arrest for a charge that was subsequently dropped. We are asking for you to sign this petition so that he can return home to his family, and his career that helped change the lives of everyone around him. The native of Greensboro, Georgia’s rise to fame was heavily documented and fans around the country quickly fell in love with the charismatic and personable entertainer.  More importantly than his career, however, Brown is a father of 5 children, family man, and fiance. From his hit single, to his debut album cover, the importance of his kids in his life can not be understated. On December 8th, 2020 Foogiano was arrested for possession of a gun that was ultimately found to not be his. After posting a $50,000 cash bond and being released from jail on house arrest, another warrant was filed. Foogiano made a decision that he knew was best for his family and his kids, and removed his house arrest monitor so he could be present for the birth of his newborn child Kwame Jr. and arrange affairs for his children, Khristian, Avery, Aiden, Khaliah, and Kwame Jr.'s Christmas. He was arrested in March 2021,  and is still incarcerated. In October of 2021, Foogiano’s original gun charge was dismissed and he was brought back on a motion of reconsideration and was still sentenced to 60 months for the ankle monitor violation. Historically, rural southern towns such as Greensboro, Georgia where he was arrested, have been known for their disproportionate sentencing, particularly as it pertains to people of color. Despite vouchers for his character, community involvement, and the subsequent dismissal of the original charge he still remains incarcerated after 11 months. In one short year of signing his record deal Foogiano was able to not only change his life but the lives of his family and his support system. Consequently he has been stripped of that same time period and opportunity to affect more change in his community and hometown on a bigger scale. Help us reach Governor Brian Kemp so we can get Foogiano's sentence commuted to time served, and given the ability to come back home to his family, friends, and fans.
