Vote Yes to Reporting Sexual Assault in Private Schools
This petition made change with 11,939 supporters!
In New York State, private schools are not required to report sexual assault of students committed by school employees or volunteers. Public schools are already required to do so. Children in both private and public schools should have the same protection. This is a non-partisan idea we can all support.
The New York State Legislature passed an amendment in May 2018 that would do just that - require private schools to report sexual assault to legal authorities. Please sign this petition which urges the legislature to send Gov. Cuomo the proposed amendment to Article 23-B of the Education Law and asks the governor to SIGN IT.
On a personal note, I am 15-year-old high school student from New York, and one of 500,000 private school students in the state, who could be impacted by this law. Thank you for your help!!!
