Revoking the Double Jeopardy Law

The Issue

Emmett Till was a 14-year-old African American who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, after being accused of offending a white woman in her family's grocery store. His killers were trialed and were found not guilty of killing the young man that had not lived long enough to enjoy life.Protected against double jeopardy, the two men publicly admitted in a 1956 interview with Look magazine that they had killed Till. These men got away with murdering an innocent child. Carolyn Bryant admitted to lying in court about what truly happened with her interactions with the late Emmett Till. Perjury is not to be taken lightly especially when it comes to someone’s life. People like them are protected by this ridiculous law.
Getting rid of this law would get so many people the justice they deserve. I’m trying to make a change for the people that will come after us. “Actions have consequences” everyone has heard that saying and if you haven’t now you have. Justice is needed for those who are wrongly treated. People are getting locked away for things they didn’t do while the criminal is free to do whatever they want. That’s not right. The government is to help make the world a better place, but how are they doing that when laws like this are still in place. Help make a difference and sign this petition to help get rid of Double Jeopardy. Your vote may be worth more than you realize so please help make the world a better place.
