Speak up for our coral reefs

Speak up for our coral reefs
Why this petition matters
Speak up for our coral reefs.
Today the coral reefs are home to over 4,000 distinct species. All these species rely on reefs for their survival. However, these species are being affected by coral bleaching. Coral bleaching is one coral becomes wait to stressors. These stressors can be the temperature changing, pollution, too much light and nutrients. Coral bleaching not only affects marine life it affects small island countries/humans. These countries are protected from erosion, flooding, and rising sea levels due to coral reefs. Without them, their shoreline would be vulnerable to these factors and could harm human life.
To help prevent coral bleaching we can start by recycling more. It helps cut down emissions of gases being released into the atmosphere, which helps control climate change. Reducing your water usage helps lower the energy being used in treatment plants. Avoid harming the coral reefs when visiting. Touching/breaking coral reefs causes them to experience stress which leads to bleaching. Reducing stormwater runoff can help reduce flooding, reduce water pollution and protect water resources.
By lowering our CO2 emissions, we can save these coral reefs and all who depend on them, both marine and humans. If we do not lower our CO2 emissions, coral reefs will die off in record numbers.
